For
a wedding gift, the Hudson's (Tom's best man, wife and baby), bought us an
all expense paid trip to an Inn over on the Coast called the Pelican Inn.
It's known for a very British flavor, excellent food, quaint accommodations
(7 rooms), being at Muir Beach, and being on one of the curviest stretches
of Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway).

Kicking back in the room after getting settled, but before dinner. |
Tom
unpacking and getting settled. We pushed back our dinner reservations to
6:30, because we were running a little late and had to go back to the house
because we forgot some of our cloths again. |
 We've
been calling the trip our second Honeymoon. A chance to get away just
as reality was setting back in after the first honeymoon. It was very
relaxing. Tom enjoyed the "Pelican Pale" ale, and we had a good time.
Tom had the Beef Wellington and Tamara the Duck, for dinner. We both
tried a glass of the Pelican Merlot. Breakfast was a traditional
English style breakfast, with thick bacon, eggs over easy, toast, fried
tomato, banger (it was missing the beans though). The food was great and Tom
finally admitted he was full!

On
the Couch, we posed for a shot after getting ready for dinner. |
Tom,
Checks out the View. |
You
gotta be a quicker draw than that!(Tamara trying to
set the camera up for a auto-photo) |
Where's
Tamara? |
After dinner, We made the trek up the road over to the beach. we
took the scenic route there, through the horse path along the marsh.
Lots of bugs! and Rabbits. We climbed around the rocks for a while and
just let our dinner settle. The hills blocked the sunset, but the view
was still pretty spectacular. |
 Jim
the bartender was good fun. We retired to the snug at about 10:00, to
find some other Inn guests were just getting settled in there as well.
After working on the fire for about an hour, Tamara finally got that going. |
 We
hung out with the other Inn guests in the snug for a couple of hours. Mostly
swapping war stories, picking on the fire and exploring the many interesting
things in the room. Tom tried to get the Piano started, but no one would
play. Eventually someone found the pelican.
Tom
liked the many miniature boat hulls that were hung from the ceilings in the
different parts of the Inn.
We probably drank too much, and partied too loud, but when we asked the
bartender about it, he said it didn't matter because we were the guests in
room 7 and if we didn't complain everything was OK. Room 7 is above
the snug and bar areas. Finally things broke down in the snug and
after the main bar had emptied everyone went to that area to play a 5 way
game of Tactics. It took a long time to play out.
On Sunday, after breakfast, we headed for Calistoga/Napa to do some wine
tasting. We visited some winery's we had never visited before like
"Dutch Henry", "Casa Nuevo", and "Goosecross". We also visited St.
Supery, which was the winery we toured when we came to Napa for the infamous
6th date. With more than an estimated
700 winery's in the area, it will take us a few more trips to visit them
all. We found out there is a special event the weekend of Tom's
birthday where you can buy a pass to visit and wine taste at 40 winery's
along the Silverado Trail over the two days. We don't believe it can
be done, but Tamara thinks we should try if we can afford a place to stay.
We were back home by about 5 PM with time to relax and enjoy the evening.
It was a nice weekend getaway. |
